Salomé Mooij is een interdisciplinair performancekunstenaar en moderne clown. Sinds haar afstuderen ontwikkelt zij haar werk in samenwerking met SoAP Maastricht, waarbij ze van 2020 tot 2022 werd ondersteund door de Nieuwe Makers-regeling van het FPK in Nederland. Haar studies in filosofie, theaterregie en fysiek spel komen samen in haar werk en vormen een belangrijke drijfveer. Ze beschouwt haar praktijk als een slenterpraktijk, waarin ze speelse verkenningen maakt van datgene wat haar bezighoudt en wat ze onderweg in de wereld tegenkomt. Kenmerkend is haar intieme manier van samenzijn, waarbij de ontmoeting met het publiek centraal staat en ze het publiek uitnodigt om samen te kijken naar hoe we samenleven of door het leven bewegen.

In haar werk luistert Salomé steeds meer naar de dynamiek en intuïtieve blik van het clowneske, zowel op het podium als in de manier waarop maker en publiek zich in de wereld bewegen. Ze heeft een artistiek verlangen om het vanzelfsprekende te bevragen, en de ontvankelijke houding van de clown sluit nauw aan bij haar aanwezigheid als performer. Deze directe relatie van de clown met het publiek weerspiegelt de inhoud van haar werk, dat niet alleen zoekt naar verbinding maar ook naar diepgang. Slapstick en clownerie zijn voor haar zowel speltechniek als levenshouding, en vormen daardoor een enorme bron van inspiratie.

In haar nieuwste project wil Salomé een aantal handelingen nader bestuderen, te beginnen met de studie van de struikel. Ze onderzoekt hoe deze simpele handeling iets kan vertellen over menselijk gedrag en interactie. Wat zijn de elementen van een geloofwaardige struikel? Hoe kan de fysieke handeling van struikelen metaforisch worden, en hoe kan dit gedeeld worden met een publiek of het publiek zelfs actief betrekken? Voor dit onderzoek creëert ze een struikel-hoek in een hoekje van de kerk, het festivalhart, waar verschillende experimenten—zowel gepland als ongepland—zullen plaatsvinden. Dit omvat een struikel-lecture, een serie struikel-scores, mogelijk een struikel-anthologie en een feestelijke struikel-jam.

Salomé Mooij is an interdisciplinary performance artist and modern clown. Since graduating, she has been developing her work in collaboration with SoAP Maastricht, where she was supported from 2020 to 2022 by the Nieuwe Makers scheme of the FPK in the Netherlands. Her studies in philosophy, theatre direction and physical acting come together in her work and form an important driving force. She sees her practice as a strolling practice, in which she makes playful explorations of what occupies her and what she encounters along the way in the world. Characteristic is her intimate way of being together, in which the encounter with the audience is central and she invites the audience to look together at how we live together or move through life.

In her work, Salomé increasingly listens to the dynamics and intuitive view of the clownish, both on stage and in the way in which maker and audience move in the world. She has an artistic desire to question the obvious, and the receptive attitude of the clown closely matches her presence as a performer. This direct relationship between the clown and the audience reflects the content of her work, which not only seeks connection but also depth. For her, slapstick and clowning are both acting techniques and attitudes to life, and are therefore a huge source of inspiration.

In her latest project, Salomé wants to study a number of actions in more detail, starting with the study of the stumble. She investigates how this simple action can tell us something about human behavior and interaction. What are the elements of a credible stumble? How can the physical act of stumbling become metaphorical, and how can this be shared with an audience or even actively involve the audience? For this research, she creates a stumble corner in a corner of the church, the heart of the festival, where various experiments—both planned and unplanned—will take place. This includes a stumble lecture, a series of stumble scores, possibly a stumble anthology and a festive stumble jam.In a corner of the church, the festival heart, I will create a stumble-corner in which various experiments, planned and unplanned, will take place.
