Op vrijdag 8 en zaterdag 9 december 2023 streek de achtste editie van Winternights neer in en rond de Lutherse Kerk in Maastricht. Tijdens het gratis toegankelijke performing arts festival kan je ‘onaf’ werk, oftewel work-in-progress, zien van verschillende theatermakers, performers, choreografen, componisten en beeldend kunstenaars, op verrassende locaties.
Deze achtste editie van Winternights bestaat het programma uit een breed scala aan makers die hun artistieke onderzoek zichtbaar maken. De makers zijn allen verbonden aan en uitgenodigd door de organisatoren C-TAKT, SoAP Maastricht en VIA ZUID. Dit jaar zijn het Barabara Tjonck, Esra Çopur & Philipp Cahrpit, Evelien Cammaert, Gerben Vaillant, Jelle Huizinga, Johannes Bellinkx & Daan Brinkmann, Karen Hendrickx, KIN Collective, MOHA, Moni Wespi en Naomi Steijger & Lieselot Mariën die hun werk toetsen en testen met het Winternights publiek. De on-afheid van het werk geeft de gelegenheid aan de aanwezige toeschouwer om na afloop van alle presentaties in gesprek te gaan met de makers.
De Lutherse Kerk vormt ook dit jaar de uitvalsbasis van Winternights. Verschillende ruimtes in en rond de Lutherse Kerk, het Statenkwartier en het Sphinxkwartier worden ingericht als presentatieplekken, ateliers, labo, theater en dansvloer. In De Ochtenden palmde het kunstenaarscollectief Sunflower Soup de Lutherse Kerk in. Samen met hen bevragen we, met hoofd en handen, onze plek in de natuur. Hoe bewegen we van de religieuze verticaliteit van de kerk, god-mens-dier-plant, naar een horizontaler denken? Kunnen we de logica ook omdraaien en een tijdelijk plantiarchaat stichten? Het plantiarchaat wil niets opleggen maar vooral ruimte maken voor ondergrondse ideeën en niet gehoorde stemmen.

On Friday 8 and Saturday 9 December 2023, the eighth edition of Winternights took place in and around the Lutheran Church in Maastricht. During the freely accessible performing arts festival you can see 'unfinished' work, or work-in-progress, by various theater makers, performers, choreographers, composers and visual artists, at surprising locations.
This eighth edition of Winternights, the program consists of a wide range of makers who make their artistic research visible. The makers are all affiliated with and invited by the organizers C-TAKT, SoAP Maastricht and VIA ZUID. This year it is Barabara Tjonck, Esra Çopur & Philipp Cahrpit, Evelien Cammaert, Gerben Vaillant, Jelle Huizinga, Johannes Bellinkx & Daan Brinkmann, Karen Hendrickx, KIN Collective, MOHA, Moni Wespi and Naomi Steijger & Lieselot Mariën who test and test their work with the Winternights audience. The unfinished nature of the work gives the audience the opportunity to engage in conversation with the makers after all presentations.
The Lutheran Church will once again be the base for Winternights this year. Various spaces in and around the Lutheran Church, the Statenkwartier and the Sphinxkwartier are furnished as presentation areas, studios, lab, theater and dance floor. In De Ochtenden, the artist collective Sunflower Soup took over the Lutheran Church. Together with them, we question our place in nature, with head and hands. How do we move from the religious verticality of the church, god-man-animal-plant, to a more horizontal thinking? Can we also reverse the logic and establish a temporary plantiarchy? The plantiarchy does not want to impose anything, but above all wants to make room for underground ideas and unheard voices.
