Hüseyin Umaysız is theaterregisseur en performancekunstenaar. Hij omschrijft zichzelf als een bergmens, een wilde in de moderniteit. Gefascineerd onderzoekt hij de effecten van performances waarbij het lichaam onder druk staat, trillingen geluid worden, en tijd-ritme verschuift.
De laatste jaren richt hij zich op de relatie tussen mens, natuur en materialen. Momenteel onderzoekt hij de Munzur-rivier in Koerdistan en vilt, het eerste industriële weefsel. Hij ontdekte dat vrouwen rivierwater gebruikten voor yoghurt en broodgist.
Geïnspireerd door deze traditie onderzoekt hij de relatie tussen het menselijk lichaam en de miljarden bacteriën die ons omringen. Met de performance Gist laat hij het publiek meekijken in dit proces, in de vorm van een unieke, zintuiglijke ervaring.

Hüseyin Umaysız is a theatre director and performance artist. He describes himself as a mountain man, a savage in modernity. Fascinated, he investigates the effects of performances in which the body is under pressure, vibrations become sound, and time-rhythm shifts.
In recent years, he has focused on the relationship between humans, nature and materials. He is currently researching the Munzur River in Kurdistan and felt, the first industrial fabric. He discovered that women used river water for yoghurt and bread yeast.
Inspired by this tradition, he investigates the relationship between the human body and the billions of bacteria that surround us. With the performance Gist (yeast) he lets the audience watch this process, in the form of a unique, sensory experience.
